Instructions to Authors’ and Submission Guidelines

Submission of new manuscript for consideration of publication in Vayumandal Journal:

  1. The submission of manuscript and review process have been made online for half yearly journal VAYUMANDAL and authors should submit their manuscript online using “Submission” in the VAYUMANDAL web portal vayumandal.imetsociety.org.

  1. The journal “VAYUMANDAL” publishes, scientific papers (Full length research papers, Shorter Contribution and Letters, in regular issues dealing with the Meteorology, Hydrology & Geophysics where meteorological events occur. In special issues the Journal VAYUMANDAL also publishes review articles in addition to above. The peer review process for special issues and article collections follows the same process as for regular submissions, except, a guest editor may send the submissions out to the reviewers and may recommend a decision to the journal editor. The journal editor oversees the peer review process of all special issues and article collections to ensure the high standards of publishing ethics and responsiveness and is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. Authors should send original research contributions only and no manuscripts should be submitted for publication if they have already been published, accepted or submitted for publication, even partly, elsewhere. Authors are requested to provide three potential reviewers/referees from different parts of the globe.

  1. Peer review

This journal follows anonymized review process. The submitted paper will initially be assessed by one of our our editors to determine the suitability for publication. If your submission is deemed suitable, it will typically be sent to a minimum of two reviewers for an independent expert assessment of the scientific quality. The decision as to whether your article is accepted or rejected will be taken by the assigned editors.

Our editors are not involved in making decisions about papers which:

  • they have written themselves.
  • relate to products or services in which they have an interest.

  1. Submission declaration

When authors submit an article to an VAYUMANDAL journal it is implied that:

  • the work described has not been published previously including in the form of a preprint, an abstract except academic thesis or registered report.
  • the article is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • the article's publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out.
  • if accepted, the article will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically, without the written consent of the Chief Editor of Vayumandal Journal.

To verify compliance with our journal publishing policies, we may check your manuscript with our screening tools.

  1. Authorship

All authors should have made substantial contributions to the manuscript i.e. the conception and design of the study, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data or drafting the article or revising it critically.

Authors should appoint a corresponding author to communicate with the journal during the editorial process. All authors should agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work to ensure that the questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All authors must be listed in the manuscript and their details (affiliation and Email) entered into the paper.

The changes to authorship will not be considered generally once a manuscript has been submitted. It is important that authors carefully consider the authorship list and order of authors and provide a definitive author list at original submission. Only in exceptional circumstances will the journal editor consider the addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors post acceptance. Requests to change authorship should be made by the corresponding author, who must provide the reason for the request to the journal editor with written confirmation from all authors, including any authors being added or removed, that they agree with the addition, removal or rearrangement.

  1. Funding sources

Authors must disclose any funding sources that provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article. The role of sponsors, if any, should be declared in relation to the study design, collection, analysis and interpretation of data, writing of the report and decision to submit the article for publication. If funding sources had no such involvement this should be stated in your submission. List funding sources as follows:

Funding : This work was supported by the                       (Name of Funding Agency, grant numbers xxxx, yyyy).

  1. Image manipulation

Any manipulation of images for the purpose of deception or fraud will be seen as scientific ethical abuse and will be dealt with accordingly. No specific feature within an image may be enhanced, obscured, moved, removed or introduced. Adjustments of brightness, contrast, or color balance are acceptable if, and only as long as, they do not obscure or eliminate any information present in the original image. Nonlinear adjustments such as changes to gamma settings must be disclosed in the figure legend. Authors are encouraged to carefully check all images before submission and to connect all the data in any figures to the original, unprocessed data.

The Vayumandal journal does not permit the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to create or alter images in submitted manuscripts.

  1. Writing and formatting

We ask you to provide editable source files using the extension .doc/.docx for Word files for your entire submission (including figures, tables and text graphics). A PDF is not an acceptable source file. Use spell- check and grammar-check functions to avoid errors.

The manuscript should be arranged in the following order:

  1. Layout text in a single-column format.
  2. You are required to include the following details in the title page information

  • Article title. Article titles should be concise and informative. Please avoid abbreviations and formulae, where possible, unless they are established and widely understood.
  • Author names. Provide the given name(s) and family name(s) of each author. Carefully check that all names are accurately spelled.
  • Affiliations. Add affiliation addresses, referring to where the work was carried out, below the author names. Indicate affiliations using a lower-case superscript letter immediately after the author's name and in front of the corresponding address. Ensure that you provide the full postal address of each affiliation, including the country name and, the email address of each author.
  • Corresponding author. Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence for your article at all stages of the refereeing and publication process and also post-publication. This responsibility includes answering any future queries about your results, data, methodology and materials. It is important that the email address and contact details of your corresponding author are kept up to date during the submission and publication process.

Abstract

The author(s) are required to provide a concise and factual abstract which does not exceed 300 words. The abstract should briefly state the purpose of your research, principal results and major conclusions. Abstracts must be able to stand alone as abstracts are often presented separately from the article. Avoid references in Abstract. Avoid non-standard or uncommon abbreviations. If any are essential to include, ensure they are defined within your abstract at first mention. Provide abstract in English only (Hindi translation is not required to be submitted by authors).

Keywords

You are required to provide 1 to 5 keywords for indexing purposes. Keywords should be written in English. Please try to avoid keywords consisting of multiple words (using "and" or "of"). We recommend that you only use abbreviations in keywords if they are firmly established in the field.

Math formulae

Submit math equations as editable text, not as images. Display equations separately from your text, numbering them consecutively in the order they are referred to within your text. Present simple formulae in line with normal text, where possible. Use the solidus (/) instead of a horizontal line for small fractional terms such as X/Y. Present variables in italics. Denote powers of e by exp. To avoid ambiguity: parentheses, brackets and braces, in this order {[()]}. Avoid awkward fractional composition by using negative powers. Use parentheses, brackets and braces, in this order {[()]}. Add one extra line space above and below all displayed equations.

Tables

Tables must be submitted as editable text, not as images. Place tables next to the relevant text or on a separate page(s) at the end of your article. Cite all tables in the manuscript text. Number tables consecutively according to their appearance in the text. Provide captions along with the tables. Place any table notes below the table body. We recommend that you use tables sparingly, ensuring that any data presented in tables is not duplicating results described elsewhere in the article.

Figures, images and artwork

Cite all images in the manuscript text. Number images according to the sequence they appear within your article. Provide captions for all figures, images, and artwork. Use high resolution TIFF, JPG or PNG format using a minimum of 1000 dpi. All images must have a caption. A caption should consist of a brief title (not displayed on the figure itself) and a description of the image. We advise you to keep the amount of text in any image to a minimum, though any symbols and abbreviations used should be explained.

Article structure

Divide your article into clearly defined and numbered sections.

  1. Introduction
  2. Data and methodology
  3. Results and discussion
  4. Conclusions
  5. Acknowledgements
  6. Author statement
  7. Reference list
  8. Appendix, if any

Number subsections 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), then 1.2, etc. You may give subsections a brief heading. Headings should appear on a separate line. Do not include the article abstract within section numbering.

Acknowledgements

Include any individuals who provided you with help during your research, such as help with language, writing or proof reading, in the acknowledgements section. Acknowledgements should be placed in a separate section which appears directly before the reference list. Do not include acknowledgements on your title page, as a footnote to your title, or anywhere else in your article other than in the separate acknowledgements section.

References

All the references in the text should be in the proper format as mentioned below: Ramage, 1971 (for one author);

Sikka and Dixit, 1972 (for two authors); Yu, et al., 2008 (for more than two authors).

A complete list of all references quoted in the text and arranged alphabetically may be given at the end of the paper indicating clearly the name of the author (surname preceding the initials); year of publication; title of

the paper (within inverted commas); name of the journal in customary abbreviation form, volume and number of the journal and page numbers, e.g., Sud, Y.C. Lau,

EXAMPLE: K.M. Walker, G.K. and Kim, J.H., 1995, “Understanding biosphere-precipitation relationship: Theory, model simulations and logical inferences”, Vayumandal, 46, 1 pp. 1-14.

Line Numbers

Insert continuous line numbers in the text of manuscript so that reviewers can easily refer text in their report.

  1. Policy on plagiarism: Manuscripts plagiarism should be less than 15% and Grammar quality score should be more than 85%.

  1. Standard abbreviations in vogue only should be used in the paper. The names of month may be normally given in full, but these can also be written in three letter form, such as, Jan, Feb, Mar etc. the dates should be given as 23 January or 23 Jan. Time should be given as 0300 UTC or 0830 hr (IST). Only standard units, in force, should be used in the paper, e.g., hPa (not mb), UTC (not GMT).

  1. The authors are themselves responsible for the statements and opinions advanced by them in their contributions published in “VAYUMANDAL”. The Chief Editor do not hold himself responsible for any such statement and opinions expressed by the authors in their papers.

  1. Author contributions

For transparency, we require corresponding authors to provide co-author contributions to the manuscript using the relevant CRediT roles. The CRediT taxonomy includes 14 different roles describing each contributor's specific contribution to the scholarly output. The roles are: Conceptualization; Data curation; Formal analysis; Funding acquisition; Investigation; Methodology; Project administration; Resources; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Roles/Writing - original draft; and Writing - review & editing. Note that not all roles may apply to every manuscript, and authors may have contributed through multiple roles.

  1. Submission declaration/UNDERTAKING

UNDERTAKING SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY AUTHOR ALONG WITH Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere including electronically in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the copyright-holder.

  1. Author statement (Disclaimer) - Author statement (Disclaimer) should be mandatory, viz., “The contents and views expressed in this research paper/article are the views of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the organizations they belong to”.

  1. Jurisdiction - The jurisdiction for all disputes concerning submitted articles, published material and subscription will be at Chief Editor/ courts/tribunals situated in Delhi only. Copyright - All copyright reserved by Indian Meteorological Society.

Note:-Authors should specify the email IDs of all co-authors along with the submission of the Manuscript.

Submission of modified manuscript:

  1. The manuscript should be modified with careful attention to the referee’s comments/remarks accordingly as per suggested by the peer reviewer. Authors have to provide the modified manuscript as suggested above in the “Submission of new manuscript”.
  2. In the modified manuscript, authors should provide an annotated version that highlights the changes made to the earlier version of the manuscript. This can be done easily with the "track changes" or "record changes" option available in modern word processors.
  3. The author should give point-by-point reply to the reviewers' comments. Reply to each reviewer's comments separately and include the reviewer's comments in the reply.
  4. The author should give a brief description of the changes made in response to the comment and give the reviewers and editor, a pointer to the changes in the revised manuscript.
  5. The author should submit the revised manuscript from the date of submission and modified manuscript after receiving referee comments within  21 days; otherwise their submission will not be considered. If authors need more time to submit a revised manuscript, they can request for an extension from the journal's editor. It's generally best to communicate this need as soon as possible after receiving the revision request and the initial deadline.

After Acceptance of the paper

The final formatted research paper/shorter contribution/letter as appearing in “VAYUMANDAL” will be sent to the corresponding for final checking. The same will be returned by the author within two or three days for further action in due course.

Originality and acknowledgement of sources

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted and permission has been obtained where necessary.

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced the reported work and that give the work appropriate context within the larger scholarly record. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used or reported without explicit, written permission from the source.

Plagiarism takes many forms, from ‘passing off’ another’s paper as the author’s own paper, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another’s paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

 Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication

An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal of primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

In general, an author should not submit for consideration in another journal a paper that has been published previously, except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis or as an electronic preprint.
